Jim’s passion is for the concepts of individual liberty and the Constitution. “We want to reduce the size of government. We want to repeal oppressive nanny state regulation. We need citizen legislators again. I’ll go and fix what needs to be fixed and I will come home. If Congress is not in session that requires my vote, I will be back in Arizona in the office working for you. The Senator should be accountable to the Arizona State legislature. I believe the 17th amendment should be repealed”, referring to the Senators being popularly elected instead of by the legislatures of the various states as was the case at the founding of the constitution.
Immigration and Border Security
Legal immigration is what made this country great and what will keep us safe. Everyone that comes to this great country must do so legally. I do not support amnesty and am steadfast in securing our borders, enforcing visa laws and eliminating illegal immigration. Border security is National Security. We must secure the Arizona border now. Aliens cross our borders in hope of amnesty. We must remove their incentives for entering illegally. We are a Republic and violation of our laws have consequences. Everyone is encouraged to petition our government for citizenship however, the back of the line starts in their home country, not our back yards. (more…)
Health Care
The regulation of health insurance providers needs to be handled at the state levels. If the states want a public option paid for by their tax payers that is up to them but to force the monstrosity of the Health Care Reform bill that has Federal control of an individuals healthcare choices is wrong and I believe, unconstitutional. Federal management of Medicare has bankrupted the system and adversely impacted quality of care. (more…)
Education
Children deserve the best education available. Taxing individuals, then forcing states and school districts to beg for federal dollars is not productive and does not provide the best educational opportunities. We need to let the States set their own education agenda separately and without Federal interference.
2nd Amendment
2nd Amendment
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
For me, the key to this amendment is that rights belong to the people, not the government and the government does not give us our rights. The amendment is instruction to the government to not infringe upon our rights:
In 1788 an anonymous Pennsylvanian wrote: “The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.”
Do not allow the politicians to use the word militia to confuse the issue. The military, including the National Guard are the military representations for the federal and state governments, not the militia. The militia is the people. I wholeheartedly support the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
